Steven Brakman    

Steven Brakman is Professor of International Economics at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands and Professor of German Studies at the University of Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He was born in the political capital of Holland, The Hague. He studied economics at the University of Groningen where he graduated in 1981. His first working experience was at the Research Department of the Central Bank of the Netherlands, working mainly on monetary issues. He returned to the University of Groningen in 1984 to work on his Ph D, which was finished in 1991. He has a wide range of research interests, encompassing international economics, economic growth, geographical economics, development economics, and macroeconomics. Together with Harry Garretsen he participated (and acted!) in two documentaries for Dutch television; one on the economics of QWERTY (in which also Paul Krugman starred) and one on Keynes.

Charles van Marrewijk    

Charles van Marrewijk is Professor of Economics at Utrecht University, The Netherlands, specializing in International Economics and Economic Growth & Agglomeration. Born in Het Westland, the Dutch horticultural center, in 1959 as the fifth child in a catholic family with nine children, he studied horticulture and worked as a grower before studying economics in Holland at Erasmus University Rotterdam (BA and MA) and in the United States at Purdue University (MSc and PhD). He worked at the University of Groningen for three years before returning to Erasmus University from 1990-2008. He has a wide range of research interests, encompassing international economics, economic growth, geographical economics, development economics, and macroeconomics. Charles van Marrewijk has published in various journals, including Applied Economics, Review of World Economics, Oxford Economic Papers, Journal of Regional Science, International Journal of Industrial Organization, History of Political Economy, Journal of International Economics, Energy Policy, Journal of Development Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, and the International Economic Review. He has also (co-)authored several books, published for example by Cambridge University Press and Oxford University Press on  international trade, international transfers, geographical economics, international economics, and international business.
